Glenfinnan and Glencoe
Glenfinnan and Glencoe
A typical day trip
We leave Inverness in the morning and head south west along the winding roads of Loch Ness.
At the south end of the loch is the busy wee village of Fort Augustus. The Fort from which it takes it's name is now an Abbey. The views from here looking North East up the length of the loch are not to be missed.
Continuing or journey we can stop at The Well of The Seven Heads for a tale of the macabre.
Then on to the Commando Memorial overlooking the southernmost part of The Great Glen. From here on a clear day you get a fantastic view of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain.
Next we head up the shores of Loch Eil and to the incredible scenery and history of Glen Finnan. It was here that Bonnie Prince Charle raised his standard in 1745 and also where Harry Potter flew the car over the railway viaduct!
After plenty of photos are taken we'll head back towards Fort William where Outlander fans can spy the few remaining walls of the garrison that featured in the TV show.
Finally it's on towards the stunning scenery of Glencoe. Continuing the Harry Potter theme you'll see up on the hillside where Hagrid's house was located in the films but Seòras will tell you the gory history of the Massacre of Glen Coe.
Notes
Planning your visit
Seòras will endeavour to make this a day to remember for all the right reasons but remember to keep an eye on the weather forecasts and bring waterproofs just in case.
Also, if you'd like to hike up to the viewpoints above the visitor centre and especially the one above the viaduct then please bring appropriate footwear.
